Top 5 Refrigerators from Major Online Retailers
Refrigerators are a number one necessity in every household. So I made this research to get the Top 5 Refrigerators from major online retailers so that you will not have a hard time thinking or arguing which one is the best among the rest.
Before you buy a refrigerator, think of these three points first. This will surely help you on choosing the right refrigerator for your home:
- Quality and Durability – check the material construction, design, color, etc. Remember, the refrigerator must last for a long time in your home.
- Price – Price actually comes second. Be very careful if you buy cheap refrigerators.
- Size – do you really need a big model? Think how many people you have to feed. The bigger the refrigerator equals to high electricity bills.
- Ease of cleaning – Try to imagine how will you clean the refrigerator before buying it. You may ask the salesman or browse the manufacturers website for its manual in advance to be sure. Better yet, go to the store personally and see the product first. I posted a basic cleaning guide photo for you here.

Now that has been laid out, let’s check out the top 5 refrigerators of from major online retailers:
NO. 1 – LG Model # LMX28988ST
This Korean company has impressed us with their new line refrigerators. Especially this particular model. Large storage space for your food stuff (that is 4 doors, 27 cubic ft!), beautiful French design, and check this out – large capacity ice and water dispensers for both models. The price range goes an average of $ 2,400 – $2,900 –very affordable and goes head to head with Western brand refrigerators with less features. Almost all online stores I checked – this refrigerator is always on top of their list. It is Energy Star compliant and that means lower electricity bills.
Here is the best deal ever, LG is offering 10 year warranty on its compressors. The compressor is the most hardworking component on every refrigerator. So having a 10 year warranty makes you feel secure, a great value for your money! There is another model out there, the LFX28978, almost have the same features as the LMX28988ST. Check out the photos here, but I recommend to see this for yourself. Like me, you will be excited for sure and I recommend you to buy one now.

NO. 2 – Samsung Model # RF197ACRS
I own a Samsung no-frost refrigerator before. It is lovely. Its monochrome colored body blends on my kitchen and the performance is superb. I have this small concern on its electricity consumption though. For this model, RF197ACRS, maybe I should reconsider. It can produce more ice on its automatic ice maker, and saves more energy as it is an Energy Star compliant. By the way, an alarm will sound if you left the door ajar. That is a great feature because these are one of the main reasons why there is a spike on your electricity bill.
Now check out its controls, it is all digital and shows the temperature and other information. Very cool to see in the dark. And check this out, it has LED lights for illumination. More brighter and lasts longer (say goodbye to those 60 watt bulb replacements).
One feature that we don’t see is the ‘Twin Cool Plus system’. This means that the airflow of the freezer and the refrigerator is separate. Food stays fresher and drier on both compartments. Samsung is known for cool airflows inside their refrigerators as per my experience, and this is one is utterly brilliant.
Nice French door configuration, energy saving, maximum 5 year warranty on sealed parts and labor, affordable price, and cool lighting makes Samsung my second choice. If they backed this with a 10 year warranty like LG, this will surely be number 1.

NO. 3 – GE Model # PGCS1NFZSS
Honestly, while I write this, I was considering to choose Whirlpool because of its online purchase statistics. But I have seen some bad reviews from customers. Especially on the clogged water filter and others. So I chose GE.
This model PGCS1NFZSS was recently released. 20.5 cu ft with Armoire style double drawer freezer system (same like your dress cabinet) , factory installed ice makers, stainless steel, simple digital controls, make this refrigerator simple yet elegant.
It has their proprietary ‘Brightspace’ interior lighting, and a secure close door mechanism. The doors are self closing so you will not get that nasty high electric bill.
This refrigerator is nice to look at, which makes it more handsome every time you see it. Actually, you can get this with customized panels which can thoroughly blend in your kitchen.
But its capacity is 20.5 cu ft only. And the price is $ 2,899 (MSRP) but lower on some online retailers. If that refrigerated space is not enough, you may opt for the bigger model PFSS9SKYSS – 28.5 cu. Ft. The price may jump due to bigger space. But who needs the extra space anyway? Not unless you are feeding lots of people. Very few refrigerators are good looking as this one, the pictures here says it all.
By the way, they have prompt customer service, and they can reply to your queries immediately on their website.

NO. 4 – Frigidaire Model # FFSC2323LS
We all know that Frigidaire (which was bought by Westinghouse and now Electrolux) made some hard core durable appliances in the early days that will continue to run as long as there is electricity. But times have changed. There are some comments posted that Frigidaire units are breaking down after the warranty period. Makes strange noises, ice makers easily broken, and not energy efficient as it is supposed to be. Yes there could be some flaws, but I still believe the brand name Frigidaire will improve their services and product line. After all, they have been making refrigerators since the early 1900’s.
This 22.6 cu. ft appliance has a counter depth design (good for space saving), 2 doors that open side by side, stainless steel, 2 colors, ebony black and pearl white. So what else is new?
Two main things, they have this ‘Energy Saver Plus Technology’. If you did not open your refrigerator for 24 hours, it goes into energy saving mode. Pretty neat but this all depends on your defrost cycle time. The second thing is the price. MSRP is $ 1,899, but I have seen some online retailers sell it for as low as $ 700! Now that’s a bargain.
There is one more thing, this refrigerator has an indicator light telling when you can change the filter. Please note there are a lot of Frigidaire models almost identical to this one. You can download the manual, or better yet, drop by to the store first to check the unit before purchase.

NO. 5 – Maytag MFF2558VEM
Actually I got a hard time choosing my 5th selection, there are lots of good refrigerator models out there like Bosch, Kenmore, Hotpoint, Amana, Haier, even Sanyo. But I chose Maytag here because of good customer reviews.
Still I am skeptical because I knew Maytag just famous for its washing machines in the early days They produce some refrigerators too but still I am not convinced that it is at par with well known refrigerator brands. Until recently they were purchased by Whirlpool, maybe they have improved their product line, and this model is evident.
I will be simple here. The refrigerator looks good, feels good, works good. Fast delivery times from Best Buy, and affordable price around $ 1,200 to $ 1,600. Not a bad price for a 24.7 cu. Ft.
Oh and there are some freebies too when you order this online. Just hope and pray it will reach you though, as there are some small complaints that they did not receive it or it was poorly packaged.
Close scrutiny of this refrigerator has made me notice that it borrowed a lot of designs and features from its sister products like Amana, KitchenAir, and JennAir (all acquired by Whirlpool). Some of it are a little ‘cheap’ looking to me. Especially upon close examination inside the interior. I hate to be blunt, but this ref looks good only on the outside. It also has a small capacity freezer. Not a problem for me, but other families want more freezing space.
Surprisingly, it works well. Too well in fact. Temperatures are constant inside the spaces, especially on the vegetable drawers. It is energy efficient too, and beats all the refrigerators in its class. There was some popping noises when you first started the unit, after that, it worked silently. The controls are top of the fridge. They made it simple by using numbers only to indicate your desired temperature. Good for simple folks, inconvenient for others who want to monitor the temperature data constantly. This ref is easy to clean by the way. You just have to get used to re-arranging the shelves.
Nice storage space, energy efficient, easy to use and clean, good performance, that’s what a refrigerator should be.
